Factors that affect the reliability of power supply products are design, process, management, testing and means, incoming materials and other factors. These aspects are all concerned by manufacturers and manufacturers of power supply modules. In fact, in addition to ensuring the optimization of various performance indicators, the reliability of the power module must also ensure that the production environment of the power module is clean and orderly, with good electrostatic protection measures, and appropriate temperature and humidity. The power modules produced under these conditions are truly called reliable power supplies.


With the continuous progress of society, electronic equipment plays an increasingly important role in industrial production, transportation, communications and other fields. The reliability of electronic equipment also determines the effective operation of various economic activities to a certain extent. Although the cost of the power supply module in the electronic equipment is very low, it can be called the "heart" of the electronic equipment. Failure of the power supply module may directly lead to the paralysis of the electronic equipment, causing irreparable losses.


1. Electrostatic protection:

During the manufacturing, storage, transportation and assembly of components, due to the relative movement of instruments, materials and operators, static voltage may be generated due to friction. When the device comes into contact with these charged objects, the charged objects will pass through the device Discharge, causing device failure.


Most modern integrated circuits use MOS circuits, and most power modules also use MOS tubes and integrated circuit chips. If you do not pay attention to electrostatic protection in the production of power modules, it will often result in a higher rate of defective components. Even products that pass the test may cause slight damage to the MOS tube and integrated circuit chip due to static electricity during the manufacturing process, thereby affecting the life and reliability of the power module. Introducing an electrostatic protection system (using human anti-static grounding, floor anti-static grounding, and anti-static grounding of operating devices and instruments) in the production environment can effectively avoid damage to MOS tubes and integrated circuit chips. The anti-static damage of electronic components is a complicated system engineering, which runs through the whole process of system and equipment development and production. From component procurement, packaging, transportation, inventory, installation, commissioning, testing to user use, the entire process, all-round, and all staff should follow a series of related measures to prevent static loss. Protection is a systematic project, which requires equipment investment, personnel input, and effective management and system. It can be seen from this that the quality of an electrostatic protection system directly reflects the quality management level of an enterprise and is an expression of the strength of an enterprise.


2. Humidity:

Moisture can penetrate into the porous material, causing leakage paths between the conductors, generating oxygen, moisture absorption of parts and components reduces the insulation resistance, and the isolation pressure resistance capacity decreases. However, excessive drying can also make some materials brittle, rough, and even generate static electricity. Therefore, the production environment will also have a certain impact on the reliability of the power supply.


Most power modules are produced by soldering components to small pieces of PCB boards (printed circuit boards), and then encapsulating the small pieces of PCB boards with resin. In the production process, if the humidity of the production environment is high, especially in the rainy season in the south, the moisture in the air will condense on the PCB board and components. Even when the resin is encapsulated, the bubbles are removed by the vacuum defoaming process. The moisture on the PCB and components cannot be removed. When the power module works at a higher ambient temperature, the moisture on the PCB and components vaporize and expand, causing cracks in the power module, pulling off the internal transformer wire, or introducing external moisture, corroding the components inside the power module or causing The circuit inside the module is short-circuited. For occasions with high isolation voltage requirements, the moisture on the PCB board and components will also reduce the isolation capacity of the power module, and even cause breakdown between the primary and secondary, with serious consequences.


Too low humidity will cause too much dust to float in the air, affecting the quality of the power module. Too low humidity will also generate electrostatic charge due to the movement of people. Even if it is protected by an electrostatic protection system, it may cause electrostatic damage or soft breakdown of components, resulting in the same consequences as described above


Introducing an air-conditioning system and a dehumidification system into the production environment can keep the humidity of the production environment at an appropriate level and avoid adverse effects on power module reliability due to moisture condensation or excessively dry air.
